Our Wanderers CC Over 50s team travelled north to Waiouru by invitation from Brigadier Hugh McAslan and NZ Army. On the morning of the fixture the key slid into the pitch fairly easily. But the ground is NZ’s highest altitude cricket ground so the guys were hoping the ball flies further at altitude. We restricted NZ Army to 152/9 off their 40 overs. Jono Reid 4/31 off 8 and Stephen Hewson 4/34 off 8 were the main bowlers. In reply we were dismissed for 116. Good contributions from Chris Jeffries (42), Tom Lancaster (32) and Martin Pike (27). The Army lads caught everything including a couple of crackers! We may have come second. But this weekend was about more than what happened on the field.
