What is the Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme?
The Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme is designed to support young cricket players from areas and schools that may not have the same opportunities as players from more established cricket schools.
Over the course of this season, Wanderers Young Cricketers will have the opportunity to work with some of Wellington's best coaches, who will be able to inspire, advise, support, and guide them.
WYC Program players will be selected from cricket schools outside the Premier Grade: Aotea College, Heretaunga College, Newlands College, Rongotai College, Samuel Marsden, St Bernard's College, St Catherine's College, Upper Hutt College, Wellington East Girls, Wellington High School, Whitby Collegiate (but we may invite players from outside these schools if we cannot find enough players to be part of the program)
About the Wanderers Cricket Club
Our mission is to support young cricketers and connect past players in the Wellington Region.
The primary objective of the club is the support and foster the game of cricket at Secondary School level in the Wellington region.
We achieve this through a variety of activities including matches against Secondary Schools and our newly established Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme.
Wanderers teams often contain past Wellington and domestic representative players and occasionally a New Zealand player, which provides inspiration to the young college cricketers.
Our Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme demonstrates the Wanderers determination to support a wider group of young cricketers in the Wellington Region. Especially players from areas and schools that don’t have opportunities that players from more established cricket schools get.
For past players and cricket lovers, in today’s busy world there often doesn’t seem to be the same opportunity to stay playing the game or connected to the game once you stop playing.
The Wanderers CC strive to create cricket experiences for cricket enthusiasts and past players of any level through: kindred cricket matches; social activities; and cricketing events for the many cricket lovers who share our goals and love the game.
