The Wanderers Young Cricketers Programme has made an excellent start to the 2026/2027 season, with two successful sessions held on 27 September and 18 October. Both the Junior and Senior sessions have been well received, with strong attendance numbers and positive engagement from participants.
The opening session on 27 September saw our Senior Programme benefit from guest coaches Haseeb Quazi and Glenn Hodgson, who delivered an excellent session alongside programme coach Will Martin. Hamish Marshall also oversaw the session in Connor Lusty's absence.
On 18 October, we welcomed back programme manager Connor Lusty and coach Ankur Bassi, who had missed the opening session. Both programmes again proved successful, with Ankur continuing to provide excellent coaching. We also welcomed guest coaches Sian Feehan in the Junior Programme and Balaji in the Senior Programme. The Senior group was additionally fortunate to hear from two up-and-coming Wellington Firebirds pace bowlers, Ryan Tsourgas and Amogh Paranjape.
We've been extremely fortunate to continue our relationship and coaching network with Dylan Harridge from Cricket Wellington & Mark Borthwick from New Zealand Cricket. Two great supporters of the programme, who help bring a lot of insight, as well as opportunities for their up and coming coaches through our programme. Therefore making it a learning and development opportunities for coaches of Wellington as well as our players.
Overall, the programme has started strongly, with great attendance and quality coaching contributing to a positive environment for our young cricketers. It must be said that the standard of cricketer involved in this programme is extremely high which can only be a positive for the region.
The next session is scheduled for 15 November 2026.
